the Bogies, Brains and Bile tour is well underway and already feedback from participants and audiences has been wonderful. Nobody has said it’s been poop. Most have said it’s been brainwavingly brilliant. And a few said they’d never pick their nose in quite the same way again. whatever that meant.
Big, big thank you’s to all our funders, Aberdeenshire Council, Awards for All, Aberdeen City Council, D’Oyly Carte, the Foundation for Sports and the Arts, Aberdeen Endowments Trust, David Gordon Trust, Thomas Mann Trust… our projects just arne’t possible without the kind funding from these organisations.

“Letters from a Warchild” is Abderite’s next project based on the letters from a girl to her father, who is fighting abroad, during the blitz in 1941. This is a commission by Angus Council and the project will initially tour Angus schools in May 2009. Keep posted for further developments!

Later this year we will be touring “Fathers and Eggs” – a wonderful mini tale about sexuality birth and death, written by renowned Dutch writer Heleen Verburg and translated by Rina Vergano. Watch this space

Oh yes. Aberdeen were treated with a veritable gift in December from their good friends at Abderite. We had our two antique photographers taking free photos with their (borrowed) state of the art Polaroid camera of folks who walked by… Our veritable photographers gave each lovely passer by their photo of themselves … with a special little Abderite message of quirky happiness inscribed upon the photo, to illuminate their day.
Aww…Shucks.
And, it cost nobody a bob.
Yay! (said bob.)

Hitting the Streets
HMT Studio – Tues 16th to Fri 19th December 2008
Hitting the Streets (or Malls!) on Sat 20th
Abderite Theatre will lead, create and devise street-style theatre performances and provocations to be performed in and around Aberdeen Malls on Dec 20th 2008.
The aims of these few days of theatrical silliness are:
- to have fun
- to learn about different styles/ways of street performing
- to learn new street theatre skills / hone forgotten ones
- to work with artists from other disciplines with a common desire to make work on/for the street as an experiment, bit of fun
- to laugh
- to explore innovative ways of performing and ‘non-performance’
- to explore what the public make of it
- to explore whether there is a desire to make more such work
- to be a little bit cheeky
- to laugh and have fun…
If you would like to join us for this very un-Aberdonian experiment, (go on, go on!) then please email us at hello@abderite.co.uk or phone us on 07949 513 472, or Ewan on 07974 423 191

Ewan Cameron Awarded Professional Development funding from SAC
We are really very pleased to say that Ewan was awarded Professional Development Funding from the Scottish Arts Council in order for him to attend a writing course: Writing Theatre for Younger Audiences: A European Perspective.
“This is great” said Ewan. “ It will enable me to further focus and deepen my skills as a theatre maker for and with children and young people. As we have a new production in the new year, I hope it will help me with that as well as new projects in the future.”
As Abderite is very interested in European approaches towards making theatre we thought ti would be good for Ewan to attend this course. There is a history and excellence in approaches to European children’s theatre making that is of real relevance and benefit to further enhancing and developing the work we do. |
