Venue: His Majesty's Theatre Studio
11am - 5pm: By the seat of your pants

Led by: Phelim McDermott

Phelim McDermott's shows for Improbable have grown out of a way of working that means being prepared to create work by the seat of your pants and the skin of your teeth, stepping on stage before you are ready, and allowing the audience to have an integral part in the creation of a show. During the day Phelim will work on 'Improbable' ways of improvising. This concentrates on the performer in the theatrical space, increasing their awareness, so that they can employ their own instincts and experiences. This begins with the premise that we can all improvise and we all do it all the time everyday. What is more difficult is to keep that ability when we step on a stage, in front of an audience. We will be aiming to do just that.

Co-Artistic Director of Improbable, Phelim has been responsible for a number of award winning shows including 70 Hill Lane, Lifegame, Sticky, The Hanging Man, Theatre of Blood. Phelim was also part of the award winning team who created West End and Broadway smash hit Shockheaded Peter.

A regular improvising guest with London's Comedy Store Players, Phelim has worked as an actor in radio, film, TV and Theatre.

Productions with Improbable include the multi award-winning 70 Hill Lane, Lifegame, Animo, Coma, Spirit, Sticky, Cinderella and The Hanging Man. Most recently for Improbable he directed Theatre of Blood, a collaboration with The National Theatre. Phelim, a regular improvising guest with the Comedy Store Players, was awarded a NESTA fellowship in 2003 to research new ways of rehearsing and creating theatre using Improvisation and Process Oriented Facilitation.
